Attorneys in the firm have extensive experience in handling regulatory matters involving municipally and privately-owned utilities. The firm’s utility practice involves its attorneys in proceedings before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, as well as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Representative regulatory proceedings that attorneys in the firm have experience with include rate-making and rule-making proceedings, service area disputes, certificates of territorial authority, requests for approval of financing and complaints and investigations arising under utility-related statutes and regulations.
Complementing the firm’s regulatory practice, attorneys in the firm advise municipal utilities and other governmental entities engaged in utility operations or general business and financial matters, including power supply and other projects financed with tax-exempt bonds. Clients of the firm’s utility practice include a joint action agency, which provides wholesale electric power to its 54 member cities and towns, municipally and privately-owned utilities, interstate gas pipelines, certain wireless telephone carriers, commercial and industrial customers of the state’s utilities and a statewide trade association representing Indiana’s municipal electric utilities.
